I had a well working version of multi site install. (3.8 now 3.9)
I tried to use some plugin (Tribulant Slideshow gallery)
and end up with a miss settings, I deactivated it but no change.

    1. My earlier uploads to
    wp-content/uploads/sites/2/2014/01
could not be seen in Media Library and it could not be edited
(no thumbnails only text and broken ikon)

    2. If I upload a new picture it is going to
    wp-content/blogs.dir/2/files/2014/04
and could not be seen in Media Library (text as above)
but could be open for edit.

    I am looking for:
how should I set back to dir Media lib to see my earlier uploads?
how should I set back my uploads dir instead of blogs.dir?
(as I know blogs.dir was used multi <3.5 why it is appeared now?)

thank you for your kind help

    That’s a bizarre regression.

    Go to youdomain.com//wp-admin/network/sites.php

Click on ‘edit’ for site #2 (should take you to /wp-admin/network/site-info.php?id=2 )

    Go to the settings tab.

Look for Upload Path, Upload URL Path and Fileupload Url. You can blank them all out. Yes, blank.

Then in your database, look at the table wp_sitemeta – Is there an entry for ms_files_rewriting ?

ok I blanked the Upload Path and Upload Url Path
(earlier I tried some value here)
    I have no Fileupload Url,
however I have Blog Upload Space which is also empty/blank.
yes I have wp_sitemeta and ms_files_rewriting with value of 1
should I delete or change its value? (cpanel)

    Try changing ms_files_rewriting to 0

    (@beged)

ok, I set it up to 0
it seems to be it solved the upload problem
now new uploads are going to:
    wp-content/uploads/sites/2/2014/05
and I can see my all earlier uploads from Media Library

    lessons learned:
-it should be indicated with a plugin that is it
    multi site compatible or not,
just say that compatible with 3.9 etc. is not enough…
-back up before any bigger change (=install a new plugin)
it is free and can save hours/days for you

Mika, thank you very much for your kind help,
seems to be you are real guru ??
