XML Parsing Error

Hello, I hope you can help. When I go to mysitename/sitemap.xml I get this message.
XML Parsing Error: no element found
Location: https://mysitename/sitemap.xml
Line Number 1, Column 1:I wonder whether it might be because I changed from the default permalinks after I first activated this plugin, but that may be a red herring.
