uploaded to this post vs. attached

Is there a reason why attached images don’t show up under “uploaded to this post?” Also, is there a difference between “attached” and “uploaded to this post?” The reason I ask, is the plugin seems to work, i.e. I can choose to attach files to multiple posts, however my theme creates a slideshow gallery from files uploaded to the post, and even though I’ve manually attached them using your plugin, they do not show up in this slideshow.
