• Hi all, I’m having a look at S2member plugin to see if it suits our needs (quite a bit of complicated work to be honest just to evaluate it). The site is for a Running Club.
I’ve set up nearly everything, and made our registration form, which has quite a few custom fields (PNG of our registration form: link to photo).
What I was expecting when a new member/user fills out the registration form and then clicks on the ‘JOIN’ button,,, they are directed to PayPal to pay. Once they make their payment I was expecting this to be the end of the registration process, the WP user is then established with all the data collected in our Registration form.
Instead it seems: I finally THINK I’ve figured it out. I need to put the PayPal button on the ‘Membership Options Page’, the button takes the new member to PayPal, then the new member Pays and THEN they are redirected BACK to our site to actually register as a WP User, using our S2member registration form with all our custom fields,,, CORRECT?
If correct, doesn’t this seem a little backwards??? It’s asking a potential new member to pay for something without possibly fully realizing what they need to provide,,, even such as an ‘Emergency Contact’,, I’m thinking that some people at least would rather complete the form,,, and then make the final decision whether they want to actually join and PAY,,,BEFORE they make that final CLICK on the ‘Join Button’,,, get what I mean?
IF I am correct in now realizing that a new member pays first, then registers, is there a way using S2member to accomplish it the way we want,, register/complete form first,,, THEN pay,, and when payment is successful be redirected back to a ‘Success Page’ on our site???
    Thanks much,
    Kevin Logan

  • If you upgrade to the Pro version, you can use forms which integrate the registration and payment process into one.

Possibly,,but in general I hope to find either a solution to the free S2,,, or a different app. There is far too much about S2 that I do not like (or suits my needs) to consider actually paying for it,,,

Is it possible for a new member to fill in the registration form, and then when they click the submit button and it goes to the member options/profile page, to actually use that page for the PayPal button and then click the PayPal button, pay etc. My concern is that’s not possible, because it’s probably out of order how S2 is working,, which IMO is totally lame,,and at least possibly totally lame by design.

    Thanks for the reply though

I’m not going to try to persuade you to use s2member; if you prefer something else, that’s just fine. I’m just a user like you.

However, you can get s2member to do the registration process in whatever order you like; I was just suggesting the simplest (and it isn’t lame).

By the way, the Membership Options Page is quite different from the Member’s Profile. And you can put a PayPal button anywhere you like.

What you could do is turn on Open Registration (under General Options), so that users can register on-site, then put a PayPal Subscription Modification button on the page to which they will be directed on logging in, so that they can then upgrade to a paid level. That’s not lame either IMO.
