Fields disabled at certain conditions

When using contact forms, sometimes the first name fields are disabled.
The only way to enable them I’ve found is to insert ‘dummy’ fields that are hidden into my form. This seems like it shouldn’t be the case.Also, if a form gets submitted with errors after checking the fields with the errors are disabled. Anyone have any ideas?
