Permalinks – 404 on posts when using /%postname%

  • Hi,
    I’ve got this site where I’ve imported a lot of data using WP AllImport Pro. Using the importer, I edited the slug field on all the posts to be an id such as 1234.
    The default permalink setting works, and I can also get /%category%/%postname% to work fine, but what I would really like is either:

    mydomainname.com/1234
    or
    mydomainname.com/customcategorybase/1234
    Both of these options currently result in a 404.

    I’ve tried deactivating all the plugins.
    I’ve tried changing the permissions settings on the .htaccess

    Does anyone know what’s going on?

    The hosting company says that mod_rewrite is working fine…

    I’ve also switched back to the twentyfourteen theme and it also had 404s.

    I’ve also checked for duplicate slugs and postnames… that wasn’t it either.
