Hi, even though it is more expensive than Adobe LightRoom, at the moment this seems to be the only working (?) media plugin for buddypress. Still the high price makes me have to ask some important questions.

However, the info states that it is working up until BP 1.81.
    (1) Does that mean it won’t work with BP 1.9?
    (2) Does that mean it definitely won’t work with BP 2.0 which is nearly released?

    Another question:
    (3) I might add BP later to a new site I am building. Are there any problems, when using RTMedia on a regular site first and then adding BP and even Multisite? Will the original images/albums etc still work?

    Thanks.
(WP mods: yes, yes, yes. The questions above are valid for the free version as well.)

Sorry for not updating “Compatible up to” section. rtMedia works with BuddyPress 1.9. You can test free version directly which is hosted here.

Our demo – https://demo.rtcamp.com/rtmedia/ is running BuddyPress 1.9.2

    (2) Does that mean it definitely won’t work with BP 2.0 which is nearly released?

It will definitely work with BuddyPress 2.0 and future BuddyPress releases.

We will be testing WordPress 3.9 and BuddyPress 2.0 pre-releases in next week.

    (3) I might add BP later to a new site I am building. Are there any problems, when using RTMedia on a regular site first and then adding BP and even Multisite? Will the original images/albums etc still work?

You can activate rtMedia on existing site.

I did not get part of your question: “Will the original images/albums etc still work?”

    Thank you!
    What I meant is:
1- If I use the RT media plugin for a regular WP site with just one Admin user and create albums etc.
2- Then I add Buddypress and multisite functionality

Will the albums etc created by the admin still work?

One other question as your online documentation is outdated:
    1) Where can I find up to date info about shortcodes?
    2) is it possible if 2 users upload photos and tag them with NewYork, that I can create an album/slideshow/gallery based on the tag NewYork, pulling images from both users?

    Thanks!

First, you will need PRO version for WordPress albums. You can create and manage albums using admin user. These will be separate albums from buddypress profile and groups album (if you have buddypress installed on your site).

I am not sure if your point 1 and 2 are related. Please note that WordPress-albums and BuddyPress-frontend-albums are different. They use same storage (custom posts) but have different purpose and use-cases.

Our documentation is not outdated. Not sure where did you check!

    Shortcodes – https://rtcamp.com/rtmedia/docs/common/shortcodes/

Regarding second question – you need to write your own PHP codes. Gallery shortcode doesn’t have support for something like “get-images-by-tags” yet. When we will add support for it, documentation will be updated.

Thanks for your reply. If you search on your site for ‘shortcodes’then the first result is for BuddyPress Media. That’s why it is outdated.

The road map mentions March 2014 (outdated), but it is unclear what is implemented or not and future enhancements seem to be PRO only, also unclear. Please update the roadmap. How do you expect people to pay for a year of updates (how much is renewal, anyway?) if nothing is planned? I cannot access the git.rtcamp.com, so it is impossible to see if anything is being done at all…

Anyway, do you mean that currently photos cannot be tagged or put in categories? And albums cannot be created based on tags?
Not even in the PRO version?

That is the most basic functionality needed in order to organise and create albums!

    Thanks.

ps: after some clicking through I found this, regarding shortcodes:

    “context_id

id of the current post_type (post, page, event, topic, reply, etc)
id of the current BuddyPress Component (activity, profile, group)
id of a custom context, registered via code

This provides the unique id of the context. For custom contexts, the database table and the id column have to be registered via code.”

You need more examples as this is totally unclear. Actuallyu, there are _zero_ live examples.
How are custom contexts ‘registered via code’? that must be the most ambiguous ‘instruction’ I have ever seen..

Did you ever get any clarity on registering custom contexts via code? I need this to properly use RT Media and can’t find any examples or explanations on how to do this.

You can create custom context, you just need to pass them in uploader shortcode. Check this doc: https://docs.rtcamp.com/rtmedia/developer/context/#CustomContexts for more information.
