My blog is set up as https://www.webster-marketing.com/wpblog/

Every page of my blog returns the following error:

Parse error: syntax error, unexpected T_STRING, expecting ‘&’ or T_VARIABLE or T_CONST in /home/web858qa/public_html/wpblog/wp-includes/pluggable-functions.php on line 174

The only thing I can think of that might have caused the problem involves the function.php file. I have a static home page that I was trying to pull posts into. I copied the functions.php file to the root directory just to see what would happen.

I have since replaced the pluggable-functions.php file with one from my PC. I pushed the “repair” button on my CPanel database interface. I am hosted by A Small Orange which I have heard is a reputable host.

I couldn’t find any other posts on this one, and I appreciate your help.

    Thank You in Advance

  • Did you remove the functions.php file from the root?

    Thanks for the reply.

Yes, I took the functions.php file out of the root directory.

First, check with your host to make sure they didn’t upgrade/change something in the middle of this.

If they say no, then try reuploading everything in your wp install EXCEPT the wp-content folder, and wp-config.php.

That did it! Hallelujah! The problem was in the includes folder. Thanks for your help.

I may learn some more php and mysql before I start trying to “fix” anythiing else ??

You’re welcome. Could you mark this as resolved up top, please and thank you?
