  • and you want feedback, I assume?

    1. the footer and the searchbox are non existant. I had to look 2x to see the searchbox, and the footer.. well its unreadable.

    2. Your feed link is broken. Do a search, the fix is here, a 1000 times over.

    3. the “continue reading” link is hugging the horizontal line above it. It looks sloppy.

    4. Similar to the “continue reading” link, your permalink title is hugging a horizontal line beneath it. Again, it looks sloppy.

    5. That image in your first post.. it looks like its just hanging there. You need to take some time to either wrap your images, or style them. They need something.

    6. The brown bar (now reading) clashes and overpowers everything else. Is this a literary blog? If not, you might want to do something about that.

    7. While your front page validates, this didnt:

    https://validator.w3.org/check?uri=https://www.theicono.com/2006/09/14/my-teacher-cant-use-google/

Might want to look into the cause of that, since it appears to be occuring on all of your single post pages.

Frankly, I think it can look a lot better.

Thanks for your detailed post. I’ll try to move the focus of the page towards the story, and not towards the sidebar. I agree that’s a bit distracting. No, it isn’t a website built around books.

I’ve made some changes to the footer and the searchbar to make them a bit more readable.

I actually removed the image altogether to maintain a balance between text and images. I think the site was too image-filled.

I don’t know if I agree with comments about the permalinks. That was intentionally done, and I think it helps associate the permalinks with the post. I don’t think it really hurts the readability, either, considering the lines are very light.

And how would you change it to make it look “a lot better”?

Thanks a lot for your criticism, I really appreciate the review. Sorry if I sound defensive, but I could really go into a lot of detail, since there’s only one reply here.

well, im not suggesting that those horizontal lines not be there.. I just mean that it looks (to me atleast) that someone forgot to add padding. Only until I hover over them, and see that the hover effect covers the part of the line thats directly under the link, does it look intentional.

Here’s an image that shows the difference with just 1 px of padding ??

The search box looks much better ?? and you fixed the feed ??

I cant really answer the question you asked since thats really about aesthetics, and what I like you might not. I can say that i like it much better without that image in that front post, which tells me that the image “hanging out there” was affecting alot of what I saw.

I doubt you really want to never post images, so if it were me, I would definitely add some CSS that styles images, left aligned with padding, right aligned with padding, etc..

… And you dont sound defensive, actually. ??
