Sidebar navigation – can it be done?

  • Since I am a complete WP novice I am trying to determine if WP is a good idea for a specific website concept.
    So, I’d like some feedback on the following:

    A site with 3-4 pages (with the posts page as “Home”, of course). Each page holds 1 or more subpages.
    These subpages would need to display different information in the main area.
    So, if I had Africa, Europe, and Asia tabs at the top, each tab would, apart from holding info in itself, trigger corresponding countries in the sidemenu – giving the user the option of digging deeper.

    I’ve seen fragmented information on something like this – I ‘m just having trouble gathering it all together.

    Has anyone done this inside the default WP framework – or, if not, are there stable plug-ins out there that might accomplish this?

  • So what you want is:

    On the home page Page links display the top-level or parent Pages only (i.e. Africa, Europe, etc.). On a parent Page the child Pages of that parent will display (and assumedly you want the *correct* child Pages displayed no matter which child Page you’re on as well).

    Actually, it seem that the plug-in “List Peer Pages” is able to give the feedback that I need. I displays the accessible pages for each level of the page index, rather than every parent and child.

    Unfortunately, it doesn’t seem to be online anymore. If anyone has alternative places where this plug-in is reachable, I’m all ears…
