Hopefully you have not addressed this before. As a bit of background I have just installed the program successfully on another domain I have on the same server and it is working beautifully. All I did was upload the files to both directories on my server then tried to activate them. The first went smoothly, the second gave this error …

Warning: opendir(…/wp-content/updraft): failed to open dir: No such file or directory in …/wp-content/plugins/updraftplus/updraftplus.php on line 369

Proggie looks great. Thanks for all the work.
I also tried to uninstall/ reinstall the plugin twice. No luck.

  • Hi,

Do you see that message every time you access the UD settings page, or was it only the first time?

If every time, then is there anything related showing at the bottom of the settings page?

    Best wishes,
    David

P.S. That line number – 369 – indicates that you clicked on the “Download most recently modified log file” link. Presumably you did that by accident? (Because, it sounds like you’re not aware of having done so).

    Best wishes,
    David

Hi – sorry for the delay.

WordPress 3.8.1 . Waiting to update until I do a backup.

This is the debug error I am receiving.

Down at the bottom had the following:
Backup directory specified does not exist. Click here to attempt to create the directory and set the permissions, or, to reset this option click here. If that is unsuccessful check the permissions on your server or change it to another directory that is writable by your web server process. This is where UpdraftPlus will write the zip files it creates initially. This directory must be writable by your web server. It is relative to your content directory (which by default is called wp-content). Do not place it inside your uploads or plugins directory, as that will cause recursion (backups of backups of backups of…).

Tried to create it with the link and got:
Backup directory could not be created…

The folder exists, but your webserver does not have permission to write to it. You will need to consult with your web hosting provider to find out to set permissions for a WordPress plugin to write to the directory.

What should that permission be? I will try to manually set it. As I said before, it installed successfully on another domain on the same server – not sure why the glitch. Hey – I will check the permissions on the working directory. Back in a bit.

OK. I have ensured all directory permissions wp-content & updraft are both set to the domain that is working. Still no luck.

If it helps the backup button is ‘greyed’ out and not selectable.

    Hi,

There’s not a lot that can be said from here. The backup button is greyed out when the directory is not writable. The “Click here to attempt to create the directory…” link tries about every trick I could think of to relax the file permissions, and if it doesn’t work, then it’s time to ask your web hosting company to take a look, as it’s something that can only be resolved from their end.

    Best wishes,
    David

Understood. I did a manual directory change via FTP & it took the plugin may have the error recorded somewhere though. I will let you know what the scoop is. Thanks.

Seems to be going – here is what my host said …. We’ve changed the ownership of the wp-content/updraft directory to www-data

Thanks! Hope this helps someone else.
