Import new WordPress site to old WordPress blog

    Hello,

    I apologise in advance if this is vague or concoluted; this is my first time posting in WordPress forum and I’m a little brain fried.

    We have a static HTML website with a WordPress BLOG page (www.eclipsepc.com/blog). I did not set this up and it has been there for years.

    I recently created a new WordPress SITE on a completely different domain. The plan was to use that domain as our main site. However, that plan has changed and we want to continue using the original eclipsepc.com domain but with the new WordPress site I created.

    Is it possible to just import everything from the new WordPress SITE (.Xml file) to the old WordPress BLOG and then turn that blog section into the entire site? I believe this involves changing the BLOG directory to the root directory.

    I am trying to switch our boring current website to the new WordPress site in the least technical way possible. I am not even against copying and pasting all the pages manually after making the BLOG section the entire site/root.

    Hi Alan,

    This is certainly possible. You have the right idea. It would entail doing as you describe.

    But, a cleaner way would be to set up the site on a different host, or different account on the same host, set up the site there. Then when your site is ready in its new home, point the domain to the new hosting account.

    The benefits of doing it this way is that you can make sure it’s all the way you’d like it to be before flipping the switch.

    Domains can be pointed any directory. So if you have a site in a directory named blog, and point domain.com at that directory, it will be found with domain.com. All that’s needed then is to change the urls WP uses and clean up any problem links.
