Lost 'editor' – so installed updated WordPress & theme but now lost settings
-
Please help me. I am a total layman (I paid a designer to do my website and am trying to maintain it myself) and am really struggling on this issue.
So I did have a metaslider of images on my ‘home’ page in the Beauty theme, and space at the bottom of my home page with logos to link to other websites.
When I went to upload a couple of new logos yesterday (for the first time in months) I found I had lost the ‘editor’ function in Themes – Appearances. I tried all other options – but there was nowhere to amend the home template. I found lots of google advice to update WordPress to the latest version (3.8.1), so I fully backed up, then updated, but it didn’t help.
I then noticed there was an update to my theme – so I did that too – and not only is there still no Editor function, but it replaced all of my home page settings with the standard images (metaslider has gone) and the whole section with my logos has vanished.
I immediately tried to replace the new files on my ftp server (using Filezilla) with my previously backed up ‘Beauty’ folders – but it’s not coming back.
Can anyone please give me simple (like me), clear instructions on any of the following…?
a) How to find an ‘editor’ function for my home template (Theme Options is not helping me at all).
b) I can see that I still have an active metaslider plugin, with all of the images on it, but why is it not appearing at the top of my home page, and how do I make it reappear?
c) Is there any way to get that additional lower part of my home page back (complete with the header and the logos)?
Everything else on the site appears to be working ok, including all other plugins – it’s only the home page that’s been affected by all this nonsense.
Really appreciate your help!
