REST API PUT change order status

Hi,
I am trying to update an order status via REST api though I am getting
Missing parameter data
Any ideas?
WC 2.1.2
user has read and write permissions for wc api
reading works fine for order and products
format: https://localhost/wc-api/v1/orders/1947?status=cancelled (plus authorization headers)Thanks
