• Hi,
I have the word phentermine blacklisted, so why is wordpress allowing comments with the word phentermine through?

    anyone?

I’m not completely sure that the blacklist affects trackback spam (which is the large majority of the spam you’ll get).

You might consider getting Akismet or Spam Karma 2. Either of those plugins, coupled with Bad Behavior, will take care of a large amount of that stuff.

Actaully it’s not blocking anything, when I blacklist a word I go back and test it by submitting a comment with the word, and it accepts it. Why does it do that? Thanks.

are you already using the plugins mentioned above?

No, the blacklist is all I need, so I’m just wondering to make it work

I played with mine a bit, I put in a test phrase: ghwylzm.
When I, the admin, put it in a comment, it posted. When I posted it from an unregistered user, it got black listed. I haven’t played with all the options in between yet. Were you test posting Phenterimine from your admin account when it wasn’t working?

    Hi,
No I made sure I was logged out when I did it, and the comment still wasn’t nuked it was treated normally and went into moderation like the rest.

well, I’m no expert, I’m pretty new myself. Here are the two things I can think of, maybe someone else can weigh in with more info.
    1) phenterimine is a long and hard to spell word. make sure you copied it directly from the blacklist list and pasted it into the comment. I’mnot tryin to be a jerk, it’s the kind of mistake I would make
    2) There is a check box on the same screen as the blacklist list that I have not played with. It says “An administrator must approve the comment (regardless of any matches below)” which suggests to me that this checkbox my override the blacklist. Make sure that is unchecked, which I believe is the default setting.

I’m afraid that’s all my little brain has for now. Good luck I hope it helps or at least draws the attention of someone else who can.

I’m having the same problem — it began Oct 5.

Phentermine is listed in my Moderation list, and just to be sure, I entered it in all caps (as this spammer does). I made certain it’s spelled the same way, too).

I’ve got the most recent versions of Askimet and I’ve got SK2, and all of a sudden I keep getting hit with with spam with the word PHENTERMINE in the URL.

It’s as if the moderation thingy doesn’t work anymore. These spams are also getting past SK2 and Askimet, so there’s something different about them. I upped my SK2 settings so everything is Kinda Mean, but that didn’t help, either. I finally turned off the comments for the one post that kept getting hit.

But I’m wondering how “Phentermine” is getting past the WordPress moderation list in the first place. It used to catch stuff like this.
