Permalinks and default pages
-
Hello,
I’ve switched to polylang (thanks for the great plugin!) from qTranslate because I prefer working with the translations the way polylang handles them. There are a few issues I’ve found though.
1. Can’t have a plain homepage URL.
When I go to my (static page) homepage at homepage.com and polylang is enabled, I get to homepage.com/home (home is the slug or the tagline, not sure which). I’d love to be able to have the URL for the main site as just homepage.com Permalinks are set to Post Name. This appears to be a bug; selecting “Hide URL language information for default language” fixes this. However the link in the Menu (Esplanade theme) still shows homepage.com/home
2. When creating a translation, then going to it (via the langnauge selector in the widget), and then trashing the translation, problems occur.
– The page can’t be edited (pen icon is still there in teh page list) because it claims to be in the trash, but clocking on it claims its in the trash. Going to the trash shows zero items (the Trash shows 2 items in the page list).3. When having only one page of an entire site translated, switching to that language makes the rest of the site disappear. A feature to default to a set language (or to always default to the lowest-order language that exists?) seems essential.
Another suggestion: add an option that shows the permalink setting, static front page setting, theme name, and polylang settings on a page to be able to copy-paste into a report such as this… might help avoid a lot of questions and guessing.
Thanks
Nils
