  • Hi
Those sites appear to be running on 2 different servers.
My guess is the time on the server hosting excelshir.com is drifting.
Please make sure some sort of ntp daemon is running on the server.

    Best regards

Thanks for the fast response Henrik!

I managed to bypass the login using the steps outlined by Pavan Somu in his article:
    https://www.geekandblogger.com/bypass-google-authenticator-code-login-wordpress-dashboard/

I then reinstalled your plugin and checked the box to allow for drifting. Everything appears to be working perfectly now.

Thanks again for your help! You are a gentleman and a scholar ??

I also had a domain that stopped working in the past few weeks (after 3.8 / 3.8.1 and .45, .46, .47 upgrades).

I’ve got 4 or 5 domains on a Media Temple Grid server that are working fine, but another on a DreamHost shared account that stopped working. The output from date '+%s' is correct, though, so it doesn’t seem like a drift issue.

I manually set googleauthenticator_activated to disabled and removed the token from the app on my Android, then logged in and re-enabled it with a new secret, but then I couldn’t login again.

I looked at the plugins that are running and none of them sound like they’d cause a conflict.

I haven’t had time to do any more testing, though. I think the next step will be to test if it works with the looser drifting enabled.

    Hi Shirconsulting
Thank you for your kind words ??
    Great you got it working.
But please note that if you have inaccurate time on your server the problem may reappear at a later time.
You should kindly ask the server administrator (allways be kind to administrators ?? ) to check up on the time settings on the server.

    Best regards

Hi, my account has a similar problem. I think I have a time lapse or something, because I set everything up properly with my account and with Google Authenticator, but I can’t seem to get in my account. It just says The Google Authenticator code is incorrect or has expired. And it’s very frustrating and I can’t get into my account. I have one website and it’s https://www.heavenlyglutenfree.com
Someone please help, I really have to get back into my website.

Hi @heavenlyglutenfreeco, have a read through this tutorial.

Let me know if it helps you.

    Kind regards

Thank you so much. You’re a life saver, it worked so well ??
    Everything is fixed ??

    I am glad I could help ??

I had this problem, and absolutely NONE of the online solutions I could find solved it. Then I noticed that the description in my Authenticator app (appears right below the verification code for the given account) and that listed in the [my WordPress site] > Profile > Google Authenticator Settings > Description field differed.

To fix, I deleted the current WordPress account in the app and, from within the Google Authenticator app, selected Set up account > Scan a barcode and re-scanned the QR code generated via the WordPress site (Profile > Google Authenticator Settings > Show/Hide QR Code). Thereafter, the Descriptions matched, and I was able to log on again.

I could have probably achieved the same thing by simply updating my WordPress profile’s GA “Description” field to what showed in the app. But I hate typing when a point-and-click solution is available. Even it if takes three times as long.

Hours of reading and hair-pulling fixed by a two-minute procedure. Par for the course.
