Menu changes not saving; default menu not sticking

    Using the Twenty Ten theme and wp-admin in Chrome/FF/IE. (Tried all of them with the same issue.)

    Twenty Ten supports only one menu. In the last few weeks, something odd started happening. When I edit my menu and save the changes, the Menus > Manage Locations > Primary Navigation menu loses the menu selection, so when I refresh the web site, I see a scary listing of all top level pages going across the menu bar. Then I have to go reset this option back to my one and only menu and save it, and when I refresh the site, it loads normally again. I go through this drill every time I need to make changes to the menu.

    Starting today, when I edit my menu, the changes are not being saved. (I mysteriously lost a bunch of menu items at the end of the menu.) I’m trying to put them back where they were, but WP is not saving my menu edits.

    As of today, I’m dealing with both issues and not sure why. Any insight here?

    Update…I tried a couple things but still have the same issues…

    I had my host set the following values in the PHP config:
    suhosin.post.max_vars = 5000
    suhosin.request.max_vars = 5000

    I also used the Memory Bump plugin.

    I also tried created a new menu (a 2nd menu), and I’m able to make changes and save them.

    At this point, I only have a live site for a town, so I don’t have a ton of room to make temporary changes.

    Delete it. That plugin was rolled into core some time ago. Have you tried:

    – deactivating all plugins to see if this resolves the problem. If this works, re-activate the plugins one by one until you find the problematic plugin(s).

    – switching to the default theme to rule out any theme-specific problems.

    – resetting the plugins folder by FTP or PhpMyAdmin. Sometimes, an apparently inactive plugin can still cause problems.

    – re-uploading all files & folders – except the wp-content folder and wp-config.php & root .htaccess files – from a fresh download of WordPress. Make sure that you delete the old copies of files & folder before uploading the new ones.

    I deleted the Memory Bump plugin right after I activated it. I also deleted all my inactive plugins.

    Currently I don’t have a test/dev environment…my site is live and I’m using wp-admin. However, this morning I’ve been trying to set up a localhost copy so I can do some testing and try some of these things offline.

    Ugh…I just lost the connection to the host through my wifi and think I might have been blacklisted again…this happens from time to time. Will post an update as soon as I can.

    The 3.8.1 update resolved this issue. Perfect timing that it was released today…I was running out of options and time.
