  • Do you know if it’s refereing to the index.php that is the WordPress root folder on the server?

    Do you have ftp access to the site? if so upon FTPing into the site you should see a top level WordPress folder then sub folders and files ending in .php the first file you see should be index.php this is the index Google is referring to

    No, it isn’t. Google’s tools are referring to the home page of the site, not a specific page called “index.html” or “index.php”. Trying to paste the code into index.php in the top-level directory will at best do nothing and at worst break the entire site.

    @Hilux: if you are using meta tag verification, go into Appearance > Editor, open header.php, then paste the code immediately after <head>.

    Fair enough, sorry I was trying to answer while on the go this afternoon, I read the inital post and title wrong. Thanks for Clarifying Cyril and sorry for any confusion Hilux.
