403 – Forbidden You don't have permission to access / on this server

  • When I try to view my domain (www.landysadventures.com) I get the following error:

    Forbidden

    You don’t have permission to access / on this server.
    Additionally, a 500 Internal Server Error error was encountered while trying to use an ErrorDocument to handle the request.

    When I try and access it through WP-Admin, I get the same error. Even trying to connect via FTP fails.

    I have changed the Database password and the entry in the config file (as suggested in support forums) but it has made no difference.

    Any ideas?

  • There’s a mis-configuration somewhere along the lines. Maybe it’s your .htaccess file?

    If you can’t even connect with FTP or you don’t have cpanel file management access, you need to speak with your hosts.

    Thanks WPRanger. I replaced the .htaccess file with a simple one posted on this forum, but it made no difference.

    I have opened a ticket with my hosts. Hopefully they will check access/permissions but previous experience with them has not been that great!

    I have the same error on my online WP site – I cannot login in using wp-admin and get the same 403 forbidden error, but I can view the site normally.

    I visited your site, being intrigued to know what you are doing with your Landy as I have a 1984 127. I was able to view the site and to access your login page – I went no further, but this demonstrated that my installation seems ok.

    Did you get any further with resolving the problem?
