Comment Spam

  • Is it just me, or has comment spam gotten totally off the hook in the past week or so for anyone else? I’ve been constantly adding words to my moderation list to keep ahead. It is mostly for porn sites, ringtones, and prescription drugs.

    You’re definitely doing it the hard way, gammablog!

    Get, and enable, either Akismet or Spam Karma 2 plugins. Then get the Bad Behavior plugin (it works great with either of those).

    The amount of crap that gets through will drop dramatically.

    No, I’ll check that out, but my moderation list is catching about 95% of them. I’m just wondering if others have noticed a marked increase in the past week, like I have. What is the likelyhood that these plugins will reject legitimate comments without me even knowing they were made?

    Slim. Akismet drops ’em into a moderation area. SK2 has similar options as I recall.

    And most of what you’re seeing is actually “Trackback” spam. Bad Behavior is great at killing that stuff.

    It’s really rather sad how the spammers have “flocked” to the blogosphere. ??
