Picturefill vs. jQuery masonry and infinitescroll

That makes sense. Picturefill.WP will replace any images that run through the_content filters with the picturefill HTML syntax, but picturefill.js is only run on page load and when the browser window is resized. I would be willing to bet that if you resize the browser the images in the newly added content will appear.

If this is the case, then everything is working normally, we will just need to call the picturefill javascript function whenever new content is loaded via the infinitescroll plugin. The picturefill function is in the global scope, so it can be called from anywhere with window.picturefill();. With any luck, infinitescroll will fire an event that we can hook into.

I’ll dedicate some time tomorrow to looking at infinitescroll and see if I can find what we need.

Just to clarify, we are using jQuery infinitescroll – not any wordpress plugin with a similar name.

If you’re talking about Paul Irish’s Infinite Scroll jQuery plugin, then it looks like the solution should be pretty easy.

There is a callback function after the configuration object.

$('#content').infinitescroll({
  // This is the object for all of your current options
  navSelector: 'div.navigation',
  nextSelector: 'div.navigation a:first',
  itemSelector: '#content div.post'
  // etc.
},function(arrayOfNewElems){
  // This is the optional callback function.
  // Anything inside this function should be called after any new content is loaded.
  // All we need to do is call the picturefill function and it should load the images for any new content.
  window.picturefill();
});

Let me know if that makes sense or if more explanation is needed. If you are using a different infinite scroll solution, please share a link to it and I’ll take a look at it.
