Load Index on "Later" Post

hi,

i’m trying to load the index of my blog at a later point in the reverse chronological feed, preferably at a specific post that changes over time. for instance, say my blog was a calendar of events, that had past events and upcoming events. i’d want the site to load with todays event as the “first” post, but with a “previous” page to go forward in the feed to see upcoming events, or “next” pages where you’d go backwards to see past events.

ideally, i’d somehow use the date settings from wordpress to accomplish this. i was also thinking maybe there was some sort of tag, class, etc. i could assign to the post i wanted to be “todays”. any thoughts are greatly appreciated. thanks!
