• Whenever I try to write a new page or edit the default one that it creates during the install, all I get is a page that says “Write Page” at the top with “Preview” on the right, there are also four option boxes on the right side of the screen and nothing else.

I’ve had some problems with file permisisons not being set correctly, could this be related to that? I can write and edit posts just fine but not pages.

  • It seems that WordPress is not well installed. Erase it and install it agin without touching any file permission.

I should mention that I did not install wordpress on a web server using FTP. This install is for internal use only with my department at work. It’s installed on a local desktop mac running the built-in apache server, I just copied the files across the network from remote log-in, that is what caused all the permission errors. So re-installing isn’t going to fix my problem, in fact since I’ve already caught and fixed a bunch of them I’d be right back at square one! Is there some documentation on what all the file permisions should be?? I can manually set them myself.

All xxx.php files are 644 (rw-r–r–) and folders are 755 (rwx-r-x-r-x). If you give more write permission, you create a security flaw. But this depends on how you system is set up.
