Maximum execution time of 30 seconds exceeded :( Workaround?

  • Hey Daniel,

    in the beginning the plugin was running highly reliable for me (with uploading to Dropbox) – but since the amount of files keeps growing, BackWPup always has a timeout problem. I tried a lot of settings and i almost think that my webhoster is the problem.

    Maybe I’m just too blind to find the answer. ??

    The only error message is:
    `PHP Fatal error: Maximum execution time of 30 seconds exceeded in (blablablamysite)/wp-content/plugins/backwpup/inc/class-create-archive.php on line 479 [20-Dez-2013 02:19:51] FEHLER: Maximum execution time of 30 seconds exceeded.

    What can be the cause and if possible: what could be a workaround?

    (If this already has been answered somewhere in the support thread section and you or other users may get me the link, you’d make me very happy.)

  • The next update has a setting for the max execution time. so that it can restart jobs bevore it will hit. The release came in the next days.

    The combination “large files + slow servers” seems to be a really big problem concerning most backup tools and it would be awesome if your plugin would be the most reliable. Also because the options section is the most user friendly of all. And I tried a lot of alternatives which havent been an alternative at all. ??

    Will this new feature autodetect the php settings for max execution time? Otherwise people using the plugin in several different servers have to configure this only settings to adapt to every server.. annoying.

    Do you have a recommendation for how server execution limit should be set, so that your plugin have perfect conditions to work?

    I have set max execution time to 90 seconds in all the servers. It should be more than enough for the vast majority of scripts working in the background. If not, they are the culprits of bad coding ?? XP

    WP site is hosted at GoDaddy. Where do I set the execution time to 90 seconds? Still getting this error:

    WARNING: Job finished with warnings in 60 seconds. Please resolve them for correct execution.

    You can check what’s your server’s max execution time PHP settings inside Backwpup settings screen, Information tab.
    If you are using a shared hosting in GoDaddy, you will need to set max execution time to what they have set. You can set this in the Backwpup settings screen, Jobs tab.

    Aside of the max execution time now available in the settings, I noticed a best performance is obtained in huge sites when the restart jobs variable is set to 4 or above. Also, when I tick the option to restart jobs in every step.
    That was a smart add to the settings page. ??

    You can change the max execution for GoDaddy in the wp-config.php file. Add the line “set_time_limit(90);” without the quotes. You should be able to verify the change from the information tab in BackWPup settings as mentioned.

    @marcelo Pedra: i cant realy autodetect it, because the in php.ini configured timelimit is not the real in most cases.
    The restart jobs variable is normely not needed if the restart time correctly working. The Problem is if i check the option for restarts, by default, others a crying that the execution of job is so slow … it is not easy to find the best for all.

    @w3wision: i think mostly 30 sec. (php default) is the best but i have see many cases where that is lesser.

    @capoeirista: try to set the exection time to the maximum in php configured.

    I do not have access to php. Have In another way?

    Go to setting Information in BAckwpup ther is a line with may execution time. that is the value from php.ini

    Folder exist. Verified.

    Please use latin letters for path names on dropbox. I must lokk if i can convert ist better.

    Yes (90) and set checkbox “Restart the job on each major step of task”.

    Without “Restart the job on each major step of task” and off “Maximum execution time” – (0) I try too. Result the same:
