Getting the first XX chars from post ?

  • I was looking for plugin (or a hack) to display the first XX characters from post.

    The_excerpt() is not what I’m looking for, but rather the_excerpt(’20’) or something like this – just to display the first 20 chars of a post.

    If there is a simple solution for this – please, let me know.
