the problem is i no next to nothing about linux, will it make a difference?

You don’t have to know anything about it. Linux will be NOT installed on your computer but on the server. It is enough if the host – hopefully – knows how to handle it ??

If you are not interested in fighting with technical stuff, but you are looking for a ready to made solution, you could check out places like https://thebloghotel.com, where they set WP up for you and you just have to start blogging. I set up a friend there, who wanted to start their own blog and I didn’t really have time to help them up with setups and such. Now, I don’t have any connection to them, I’m just pushing it cause they make my life easier ??

If you’re not comfortable with installation, find any host that offers Fantastico, which lets you install any number of CMSs, including WordPress, with a couple of clicks. I recommend AN Hosting, but read this: How to Find a Web Host That Doesn’t Suck.

Okay, I really hate recommending anything, but you might want to take a look at Globat.com… For less that a $100.00 / year you get 200 GB (yes GigaBytes) of disk space and a TerraByte of bandwidth per month so unless you are hosting lots of video material with tons of users downloading it… this provides unlimited email addresses, large numbers of MySQL databases, … All the workhorse material to run the site on 99.999% uptime and your own personal registered domain name too!

Its worth taking a moment or two to check it out for a place to hang your hat and blog/cms/whatever..

For what it’s worth, I’m very happy with Global Internet (gi.net). They have a “Power Tools” one-click install option to install and manage it.

It was very very east to get it running. Depending on your plan, mine for a YEAR was only $79 and it gave me 5GB of storage with 10GB of monthly bandwidth, 10 databases with 250MB of database storage.

Check it out. I usually don’t “endorse” any hoster because no one hoster is “great” but this company actually has it all together (from what it seems like).

Bluehost have the above mentioned fantastico installs, and offer you free google and yahoo advertising to the value of $75. and hosting starts at $6.95 a month, under $90 a year. Ive just switched to them myself, and they provide a great service. Plus you get free domain registration, but most hosts offer this anyway

GoDaddy is the best there is. I’ve tried most, and these are a mile ahead in terms of quality and price. Just go for their linux hosting, not windows

Sorry but any company that feels that the Internet RFCs don’t apply to them shouldn’t be listed here. GoDaddy also has a history of booting users from their servers and domain accounts if they get joejob’ed.
