I just moved my site to live. Previously I setup the site on a subdomin for development and testing. There I also setup a dummy facebook and twitter account to test the features of the site. I use formidable pro to create posts on the site. When the site was on the subdomain and a made a post, Facebook set the image beside the post info to my agency’s logo. Now that I have the site live (https://www.mecca911.org), when we make a post there is no image displayed. The only major difference is that the live Facebook page is a ‘page’ versus a personal page that i setup for testing. I don’t want to force our dispatchers to have to upload an image every time they make a news post. Anyone have any suggestions on what might be the cause? Our facebook site is: https://www.facebook.com/MCOEM if you want to take a look at the posts that are created.

  • You may need to set the “Featured Image” for the post which Publicize is publishing to facebook. If the image wasn’t uploaded to the post it may not be associated with the post.

Try posting a new post for which you have set a featured image (or uploaded the image directly to that image).

I’ve done that….I’ve created a post outside the Formidable Pro form that I’m using to post to FB. When I do fo it direct in Posts in WordPress Amin, FB still does not set an image for post that gets shared. When I was using the test site previously I didn’t have to do anything to get the image to show on the shares to FB, it was just always kinks there. So, I’m wording now if it really is related to the fact that the test FB account that I had setup before that was linked to my previous test site was just a regular, everyday, run of the mill type of account that anyone can setup; not an Organization account.

Looking at some of your recent posts, they do not seem to include any image. They do not have any Featured Image either.

Since there is no image attached to your post, Jetpack uses a default blank image instead.

If you don’t want to set a Featured Image for each one of your posts, and if you don’t want to insert an image into the posts either, you could follow the tutorial here to add a fallback image to all your posts that do not include any image:

    I hope this helps.

Jeremy, the site https://www.facebook.com/MCOEM is the live FB site that gets messages posted from our website. Since moving to the live site at https://www.mecca911.org, none of the posts created automatically from our wordpress site have had an image associated with the share. When I had a test wordpress site setup at wp.mecca911.org, I had it connected to a dummy FB account for testing purposes, and all of the shares created from wordpress to FB always had the default logo associated with them. I never created any Features Images, or had an images attached to any posts on that site and it just always worked. Not sure why.

I’ll give your code a try, but even when I created a post using the wordpress admin panel and selected a featured image, it didn’t show up on Facebook. I would have assumed that this would be a fool proof way of testing images with a shared post.

That should work indeed, but I cannot guarantee that it will work all the time.

When you share a post on Facebook, or when Jetpack Publicize publishes a post to your Facebook page, Facebook crawls the page and looks for Open Graph meta tags in the head to build a complete post preview (with an image, title, description, …).

Jetpack automatically manages these Open Graph meta tags for you, and will create an image meta tag for each one of the images you have inserted into a post, as well as for the Featured Image.

Once the Open Graph meta tags are up and added to your post, Facebook is then free to use them to build the post preview, or ignore them. That’s something you and I have no control over, unfortunately; once the meta tags are there you’ve done all what was in your power.
