@rabiller – I just re-tested (again) uploading a zip file full of JPEG images and I was not able to see any issues.

Perhaps you could try re-creating the zip archive and re-uploading? Let us know if that helps.

    Thanks!

@rabiller – Oh? Well then that is a very odd message to get from a standard JPEG format image file … do you get that will all images files you try to upload?

Thank you for your fast answer. (excuse for my english , I am French old man)
Yes, i try it with lot of files and images, and i get the same pb.
I have 2 website’s with nextgen 2.0.40 , and i get the same pb on both.
    Thank you in advance

It could be a permission issue, open a ticket with your provider too.

@rabiller – I would agree with @tizz, this may be a web host issue that should be checked if for no other reason than to rule out the possibility.

    Thanks!

Hello, I find a bypass to my pb :
if I use I.E (9) I get “failed to extract” , if I use Mozilla Firefox all is OK. Why ???????
    I close this incident
    Thanks for your help

If it’s OK, I’m going to bump / re-open this thread instead of starting a new one. I’m having the same issue in IE8 and IE9 (Flash-based uploader); I get the message “Failed to extract images from zip” when trying to upload non-zipped images. If I upload an actual zip file it is extracted correctly, so it seems the problem is just that it’s incorrectly treating image files as zip archives.

Like OP, I do not experience the issue in Firefox or Chrome (which use the HTML5 uploader), the problem seems to be isolated to the Flash uploader.

(I see there are a couple of other reports of the same issue in the forums).

    • NextGen Gallery 2.0.40
    • WordPress 3.8
    • Same issue in multiple server environments (UwAmp 2.2.1 on WinXP; Apache/PHP on Linux, versions unknown but probably irrelevant)
    • IE 8 / 9
