• I am looking for an event/calendar with a specific purpose in mind and I wanted to check to see if yours has the functionality I am looking for. I am opening a Super-Hero themed website and I want a calendar that will have the dates and times for all the comics and super-hero events I will put on there for every visitor to see like Marvel and DC TV shows (SHIELD, Arrow, Ultimate Spider-Man and Hulk cartoons etc); movies at the theater and DVD releases (like Thor and Man of Steel); the weekly Comic Book releases (the day of and what is being released); and the release dates of Marvel and DC Video Games like the Lego Marvel Super Hero Games and the Arkham Batman Game). There will be other things, I just wanted to give you an idea of what I had in mind. Visitors to the site will be able to register and sign in as a user on every visit. As a user I would like the calendar they use to be able to keep track of anything they might want to also add to the calendar themselves. This way they could have their own events personally as a user on their calendar alongside the site-wide super-hero global ones everyone sees. They would not be adding any events for anyone other than themselves. Also I would like to be able to add a category of convention dates which each user could opt in or out for on each of their calendars. Does this all sound like something your events calendar can do? Thanks

When you refer to users ‘adding events’ do you mean creating events or ‘registering’ to existing events. The former isn’t possible (though an event submission extension is in the pipeline).

The latter is possible, but with Pro (https://wp-event-organiser.com/pro-features/). Pro allows you to ‘sell’ tickets (of course, you don’t have to charge and send users through payment gateway, and this would be equivalent of just registering for an event). Pro allows you to display a calendar of events that the current user is attending (i.e. signed up for).

Regarding allowing users to opt-in/out of a ‘category’ – this isn’t possible out of the box, but would certainly be possible with some bespoke code. It seems you want a way of displaying a personalised calendar – where users add/remove specific events or entire categories of events: all entirely doable, but not a feature that’s provided natively.

On a related note someone created a bbPress extension for Event Organiser – so you can filter events by ‘group’: https://github.com/christianwach/bp-event-organiser

As far as I’m aware it is still under development – but I have no idea what stage it is at.
