    Hey RD:
Maybe you might be able to help me out with this.

I’ve tried multiple times to get the right size for my custom header that I use on my site. I tired something like 2000×223, then 1080×223, and maybe a few others that were offered. But almost always, what tends to happen is that I would save the image in my image editor in a recommended size that’s suggested (either in WP or a style sheet). I would then upload the image in the Header area of Appearance, and then I’m almost always asked to modify the size with a rectangle that goes across the image, but no greater than half the image vertically. When I select the area I want, what tends to happen is that the image area is filled up with a portion of what I’ve chosen. Ultimately, I’m not getting what I want to fit.

Do you have any suggestions on how to overcome this? Not sure if it’s a function of how the parent theme works, or something else entirely.

    Thanks a lot for reading!
    V.

    Hi Velanche

Sorry for the confusion on the header image and the problem you are encountering.

Yes the default image is 2200 × 230 but because of the responsiveness of the site and the how you want to header image to look good in all devices it gets a little hard to have a perfectly placed image in each device.

This is why I chose a some what repeatable image(s) For the default. I saw what Twenty Thirteen was doing with it’s header image and copied them.

I know this isn’t the easy answer you were looking for. But if you take a look at my site the actual image is 2200×223 but in a 17inch laptop the header is reduced to 1651 x 275px and then reduced further as the browser width is reduced.

It is going to take some trial and error to get the place of the image to work for you in all screens and devices.
