    Hi,
This issue may be resolved in others minds, but in its actuality it is not.
I hope any possibility of recovering my website is NOT dependent upon renewal of my old domain. I will be re-naming my website once I have access to it. I will be registering my new name with a new domain once I recover my website and action my intention to rename it. I have created a WP blog site many months ago which has been dormant since its creation because I decided it was putting the carriage before the horse. I thought my efforts since then, would have been better served through enabling my old website first. Unfortunately this hasn’t happened as no one seems able to nail down a definitive statement regarding whether or not my website is recoverable or not and the steps necessary to make it live. As explained earlier I am uncertain who my host was. I left those decisions with the site designer who also managed it, and who has since ceased trading. It will be a wasteful shame if I can’t recover this site. A great deal of money and effort was spent on its creation, but I can’t move forward unless I know one way or the other if it is recoverable.

If you are not going to renew the domain with this host then you will still need to contact this hosting company and either ask them to grant you temporary access to your website files and Database or ask them to zip and send you your website files and Database.

Bottom line is you need your website files and Database and this Host has them.

Once you have your website files and database you can then purchase a new hosting account with another web host, use your new domain name and clone the site or just do a standard import.

The reason this topic is marked as resolved is that what you need to do next is already listed here. This is an issue that only you and your old Host can work out. This cannot be solved here and the question of whether this site is salvageable can only be answered by your old Host.

I read all of your other posts/threads that you have posted regarding this issue and based on what you have stated in those posts/threads I think you need to hire someone who does this stuff for a living. This is a very simple thing to do for someone who does this professionally/regularly, but if this is not your area of expertise then it will be a difficult thing to figure out. ??

    Thanks for your response.

I have located website backup files files I didn’t know I had and have put them in a desktop file.

Before I download WP how will I know which version is compatible (assuming these are the correct files) or what program do I need to view the files to determine what I got. Sorry to ask questions, answers to which may seem obvious, but I’m afraid I need it spelled out to me.

WordPress is a combination of website files and a Database. I honestly do not think I could explain the steps to you because you would first need to understand some basic fundamental things about WordPress. I know this as fact because I have tried to walk someone through the steps before in the past and it does not work. If this WordPress Codex link below does not make any sense to you then the answer is to find someone who does this regularly and have them do this for you. For someone who does this regularly this will be a quick and simple thing to do vs you spending hours or days trying to figure this out.
