Can't insert thumbnails into page

    Hi
    Following the instructions here but whenever I change the Attachment Display Settings to Thumbnail and/or left aligned all I get is the full-size image with no alignment inserted. I’ve changed to the twenty-thirteen theme & knocked off all the plug-ins & the same thing is happening.
