How do I Deactiviate Photo Text Slider?

My site is currently using the WP Photo Text Slider 50 plugin. However, I have just purchased Revolution Slider and want to use this for my site instead. How do I deactivate the old plugin and start using revolution slider? When I tried to deactiviate the photo text slider plugin, it created a fatal error on my site and removed all of the content on the entire site, not just the banners.
