Auto upgrade results in this error msg:

Error: There was an error connecting to the server, Please verify the settings are correct.

I am upgrading from within my current version. This is the same password I use to get to my site with no problem.

    Thanks,

    Bill

This is a server issue – sometimes caused by a failure to compile PHP with cUrl. Contact your hosts about it.

My normal log in works fine. Why would this operation be different?

My host at the moment is not helpful.

I’m afraid we don’t have access to any information that would help in determining the cause. Only your hosts could help with that. All I can suggest for now is that you try a manual upgrade instead.

Thanks for your help. One question: (or two) Am I signing on to my WordPress blog where I post? Or am I signing in to my host? Is the hostname my blog or my host?

Is the manual upgrade as complex as it sounds?

You need to login to your WP site to post, yes.

Is the manual upgrade as complex as it sounds?

Not really – although “complex” is a relative term.
