I can't remove two widgets from my menu pages

First, thanks for your help. I was having trouble removing the archives and meta widgets from my menu pages (about, contact, etc.) I read helpful information by user Esmi and I put an empty text widget in my sidebar and the two widgets (archives, meta) that I could not delete were removed. However, there is an empty gray rectangle that appears in the right sidebar now. Does this mean that the two widgets from before are default ones? Is there anyway to get the empty text rectangle to disappear?
