• Hi,

I would like to edit an html file in my blog as my rss feed isn’t working and I think this could be due to something in my functions.php

I know you are supposed to edit in a child theme and not the actual Twenty Twelve theme (yes I do suck at all of this technical stuff and yes my css file is pretty much a copy of my parent css file at present – as I can’t figure out what I can get rid of ugh and I know this causes confusion)

I read another thread about this exact thing which says to copy the desired file from the parent theme to the child theme – I tried this and got an error message for a web page which basically said I can’t redeclare the file. I also tried creating a new functions.php in my child theme with an import link and this didn’t see to work. Please help.

  • An html file? TwentyTwelve doesn’t contain any html files.

There’s no need to copy all of the main theme’s style.css. You normally use the child theme’s style.css to make a few style changes.

The file functions.php is an exception. In a child theme it runs in addition to the main theme’s functions.php file.

See Child Themes for more information.

If you post a link to your site, someone might have a quick look at your RSS feed for you.

Opps I forgot to put the link in https://www.notlikethemoviesblog.com and https://www.notlikethemoviesblog.com/feed is the rss link supposedly.

I meant php sorry. Not good with the tech lingo. I’ve gotten rid of some of the stuff in my child css but problem is I edited the parent theme before (I know you aren’t meant to do this). And can’t figure out what else I can get rid of.

There’s some kind of hosting problem, because notlikethemoviesblog.com doesn’t seem to exist on my DNS servers here in the UK. Maybe it hasn’t got here from Texas (where your blog is apparently hosted) yet.

I found a way around that problem and looked at your blog, but it doesn’t seem to have any posts in it. Because there are no posts, the feed is empty. It annoys me that newsreaders often won’t accept feeds until they have some posts in them, but that’s the way things work. Try writing a post and try the feed again.

    Hi Rod,

Ugh this is so frustrating. I contacted my hosting company about this before and they advised that my domain (with whois) was pointing to my two name servers plus two generic things that populated the other two fields so I deleted these. They said after this, my site would be visible to all.

I will try the RSS feed again when I put up a post thanks. Just having problems with spacing at the minute so don’t want to publish but can’t seem to fix it ??
