When i move site. site looks fine but can login to wp-login

  • I have moved a WP site. exported and imported database, change config file. all appears to be working fine on new url, but i can’t login to wp-login. positive i have all info right, it worked fine until i imported database. so my guess is i did not change something in the database.

    any idea where i left some change out?

  • check you wp options table in the database and I think that has url and login info. Not 100% sure on that.

    this took me right to the login page.

    yes it does. however, when I enter the correct login info, it says incorrect password.

    I know the login is right, if I switch back to original database this login works perfect

    I think you have entered invalid password, why do you not use reset password function?

    Normally i would agree about the password. however if i replace the wp-config file to point back to the original database that was created when installed wp, the exact same login and pw work. the login and pw stop working when i point to the new database i created and imported the data from the other site. in this imported database i have changed my urls to match new site as well.

    You need to re-check the new database name, user, password and hostname.

    i think i did. i did show details in and it all looked right. is there a way to do this in php admin? if so, i don’t know how to do there.
    im in the process of creating a new database to try a new one to test if there were any errors in this one.

    thank you for all your input. i just blew away the site, added a database and it still does not work. go daddy said what i did is fine and they can’t fig out what is wrong now. they are working on it.

    Ask your hosts to confirm the database details with you.

    jut got off the phone, the host for the server was spitting back wrong host address. go daddys fault. it was adding an extra character for some reason. also, somehow WP login got mis matched so showed me how to reset from PHP admin.

    should be all set now.

    they did also show me a go around in getting right host address in case this happens again.
