Ok. I have a site through godaddy.com, they do the hosting also. The site supports Mysql and php and I used ws_ftp to upload my files…. however, there were files already created in my root directory so i left those there. (Do I need to remove?) Then I tried to go to the installation page as explained. It did not work. When I try to access my page I don’t see anything. It tells me that the page can’t be found. In the hosting control panel at godaddy I started a mysql database too. I used that information in my config.php thing (one question there though, was i supposed to delete anything there? There was a lot of writing that explained everything and there was a question mark in beginning and ending tags.

  • No, you don’t have to (and should not) delete anything in the config php, only change the site-relevant data, and the question marks are an important part of the php code.

Are you typing in the URL of the installation page correctly?
Like – if you put the WordPress files directly into the root dir:
    https://www.mysite.com/wp-admin/install.php

Once you get in, it should go smoothly. I’ve never seen anything easier to install than WP. ??

Yes, I am putting that exact site in (in fact I just copied and pasted what you wrote, changed it to the actual name of my site and it still doesn’t work). I think I may need to contact my hosting company because last night I tried to put in just a very simple index file to see at least “something” on my page, and I couldn’t even get that to work. I have enough experience with web pages to know THAT should have worked.

jentanne – did you FTP up the WHOLE wordpress folder, or did you go in and upload the 3 folders and a list of files directly?

this is NOT as complicated as those two threads make it out to be, and i have successfully (without a hitch, for the most part) installed WP on godaddy hosted sites for over a year now.

Thanks so much to both of you I had found those threads earlier, and I needed to switch over to Linux, but it never would have worked anyway……”Blushes”….. I forgot to unpark the domains…. he he he

well at least you got it sorted out!

can you please mark this thread as resolved now, so that others might know how to solve the issue themselves should they run into the same thing?
