I have added a new site using Add New Site in Network Admin. The site appears in menus and I can edit it, but if I go to the dashboard or visit it I get a 404.

I think I am having the same problem as the poster in this thread, but I am not as familiar with the WP back end as s/he apparently is. My host is vervehosting.com and I can go into its file manager and edit files (or even use FTP if need be) but I don’t really know where to begin. Could someone help walk me through this process?

What does the 404 look like?

Does it match the style of your main site? Is it a generic server one?

It’s generic: “Oops! Google Chrome could not find testsite.domainname.com”

    Okay. Go to https://www.whatsmydns.net/

Check the MAIN domain and then your subdomain.

If they don’t have the same IP, that’s your problem. You don’t have wildcard subdomains setup ??

Thanks for the reply and sorry for the delay.

So, I went into cpanel and created a wildcard subdomain for *.domainname.com … and nothing changed, it still doesn’t work. I go to whatsmydns.net and they do not have the same IP – the subdomains propagate only in Pasadena and nowhere else, with a different address than the main domain – even though I set up wildcard subdomains. Help!

Go talk to your webhost then. This is something they should be able to help you with.

DO NOT mention WordPress. Just say “I want to have wildcard subdomains that all point to my main site. So if I go to foo.domain.com it pulls up domain.com.”

    Thank you! They fixed it.
