Super Slow WordPress

  • A couple months ago I did the stupid thing of not creating a child theme so when WordPress upgraded, all of my styling got wiped out. So I created a twenty twelve child theme following instructions on a forum. Well I feel ever since then, my website (https://www.addsomecharacter.com) has been below average with regards to speed. So I contacted my host, Dream Host, and they said my server was over loaded and they did some back end things to fix the problem.

    This made the problem much worse and now they are telling me they can’t help me. My site and admin side is ridiculously slow now and I do not know what to do. I am a beginner, so please consider that when explaining.

  • Try temporarily disabling some plugins to see if that helps.

    Thanks. It looks like I have the following issues:

    There are 73 static components without a far-future expiration date.

    This page has 32 external Javascript scripts. Try combining them into one. This page has 13 external stylesheets. Try combining them into one.

    There are 12 plain text components that should be sent compressed

    There are 92 static components that are not on CDN.

    The components are split over more than 4 domains

    The following image(s) are missing width and/or height attributes.

    Optimizing the following images could reduce their size by 387.7KiB (29% reduction).

    Use what is only necessary, once I used many plugins, WordPress, phpbb, ajax chat, buddypress.

    And, guess what, my site was destroyed, slow, and I couldn’t show my posts correctly anymore, ‘coz some plugins couldn’t work with WordPress anymore.

    Keep it as simple as you can.

    What is a typical amount of plugins people use?

    I can say about myself. All my posts content now is based on shortcodes, so if WordPress or browsers updates cause that my code not working correctly anymore, I will just update my code in functions.php, and it will work again.

    For example if you use shortcode from one of your plugins in posts, what you will do once plugin is abandoned, and new WordPress update doesn’t support it anymore?

    It is just my opinion, anyway.
