upgrade to 3.6.1

I have never used ftp, etc to upload files to the host or to get my blog started. The url is https://www.connectional.com.
When I try to auto upgrade to 3.6.1 I get this error message:

Installation Failed

I have all plugins deactivated.

IO am a tyro, and any help is appreciated.
