    Hi,
I’m unable to download encrypted backups in the local backups tab. When I press the download link next to a backup, I get an error saying that that page doesn’t exist (404 error).

Downloading a backup that’s not encrypted does work by the way.

I tried this with Safari and Chrome on a Mac (10.7.5).

    Any ideas?

    Hi,

Can you connect to FTP and browse to “wp-content/backups” and see what files are in there?
It should match what is displayed in the Local Backups tab.

    Hi Jason,

The backups are there plus an index.html file.
Really strange as the non-encrypted backup does download from within WordPress, only the encrypted onces don’t.

    Hi Mark,

The encrypted one, what is the exact filename in the directory? Can you post it here and just change some of the letters around in the bit of the filename with random characters (so it’s not revealed to anyone)?

    Thanks.

    Hi Jason,
OK, I changed some of the random characters in the filename. Here it is:

The download link the plugin next to the encrypted file, can you right-click the Download link and Copy Link / Copy Shortcut and then paste it into a notepad, and compare if the file path / name is the same as on your blog?

Just want to check our link to the download is correct.

I wonder if you rename the file and add .zip onto the end will it download OK?
(You’ll end up with two files in the plugin, one that doesn’t work for sure and one that does work and was just created, which is the new name.)

    Thread Starter Multispace

    (@multispace)

Yes, that works. If I add .zip to a backup, it will download from within WordPress via Online Backup.

It also says (LOCKED) next to the name in Online Backup by the way.

    (@driskell)

    OK.

The (LOCKED) is because it was a file it found and thinks it didn’t create, so it prevents it getting deleted during retention. Unlock will remove that flag.

Can you put the file back to .enc, and when you click it, does it 404 on a URL ending “https://website.com/wp-content/backups/file.enc” or does it redirect to somewhere else? I wonder if something is redirecting it.

    Thread Starter Multispace

    (@multispace)

    The URL is indeed website.com/wp-content/backups/file.enc
so it doesn’t seem it’s redirecting.

Do you have any security plugins installed? I wonder if one doesn’t like our ENC file downloads.

    Thread Starter Multispace

    (@multispace)

Nope, no security plug-ins installed. I just tried it also with Firefox, but same problem. So it can’t be the browser either, tried Safari, Chrome and Firefox now.

Also tried another Mac OS X version (10.7 and 10.8) and another Mac: same thing.

So I guess other Mac users should have the same problem then?

I don’t have the problem here . I think it is host specific or something in your WordPress like a security plugin, but if none are installed must be host specific.

All I can suggest is ask your host why the download URL comes up 404 even though the file exists! If you find out why you can let me know and maybe I can compensate.

I just mailed my host about this, so let’s see what they have to say.
    I’ll let you know!

    Good news!
The host added .enc as a new MIME type and now it works!

    Thanks for helping out.

Please help! Our site has been down for 2 days now. We are trying to restore using our Online Backup. We have a local copy as well as the backups on their servers. When we try to unzip either, we end up with garbage.
