I’ve just noticed that certain media files do not appear in the individual post-pages (example one; example two. They do appear and function correctly in multiple post-pages (example of two previous posts).

That doesn’t explain why the media function correctly on the multiple-post pages. If it works there, why doesn’t it work on the single-post pages? That is the question.

If it ain’t broke, don’t validate it. ??

Rule #1 in troubleshooting: Isolate it.

But if it ain’t broke, cool…

Isolate it … yes … good.

OK. I now see that it’s only a problem for Flash objects in single-post pages – mpegs, mp3s and jpegs appear correctly in all types of pages.

Looking at my WP single.php file I don’t see how it could bork my embedded Flash objects.

BTW, the Flash code is generated by SwishMax — I just edit line breaks, which WP otherwise seems to reject.

    Still flummoxed by this one.

I thought that the column width might be the source of the problem because in the single-post page, everything is slightly squashed (why does that happen?). The column width is 480px and the Flash movie is 420px. I reduced the movie to 315px but the problem remained: movie plays OK in multi-post pages but not in single-post page.

    (See riabacon.com for examples.)

Any other ideas? Something with the archive(s).php file(s)?

    Resolved.

The problem was that I used bad source code (src=”../wp-movies/examplemovie.swf”). Deleting the two leading points solved the problem.

Still, it’s curious that the movies played fine on multi-post pages.
