Hello I am having a similiar situation. I open up any of my tables for editing, and the entire page freezes. I cannot do anything at times and have to just close the page completely taking me out of the website. Or the table will open and it takes a very long time to get to the bottom of the table. I only have about 350 rows and 15 columns in my largest table.

    Hi,

thanks for your post, and sorry for the trouble.

Indeed, that table is not thaaaaat big, and should work fine in the browser – unless maybe if you are using Internet Explorer on a not so new computer.
So, as this is a browser-side issue, I can only suggest to try a different browser, like Chrome or Firefox. Those have faster JavaScript interpreters, where this problem should not happen with tables of this size.

    Tobias

    Hi, Tobias.
I have exactly the same problem. I upgraded from WP-Table Reloaded to Tablepress without any problem. I did this because I found that the SAVE function in Table Reloaded stopped working. I was very happy using the Table Reloaded Plugin; extremely useful!.

Now that I am using TablePress, everything is fine until I want to edit a table. I have only 1 table with 450 rows and 15 columns. Not a big table. When I open up the edit window, I find that I cannot scroll down to the bottom of the table. I can move the cursor down in small steps – say 10-20 entries at a time …. and these small steps don’t always work. Eventually I can reach the bottom of the table but it is really hard work.

Until now, I have been editing the table using IE and Chrome – and from different machines. The same result.

Having read your answer above, I have tried editing the table using the Firefox browser. This time … no problem. I can scroll down to the bottom of the table easily.

I have also tried Safari … the scrolling also works using this browser …. but with a few hiccups along the way. Not as easy as Firefox.

So as long as I can edit in Firefox … No Problem.

    Hi Carl,

    thanks for sharing this information!

Yes, unfortunately, with many textfields/cells, the browser has to handle a lot of JavaScript for the fields, and gets slow…
I do have ideas to fix this, but that will still take some time.

Meanwhile, trying different browsers is indeed the best way to attack this. I’m surprised that Chrome is giving bad results in your case, as that’s usually the fastest in my tests. Even better then, that Firefox is there to help!

    Tobias

    Hi there

I’m sorry to say that I have the same problem using Chrome and a table with 926 rows and 11 columns.
    Screen freezes in edit window.
Works fine in Explorer – but I’m not fond of being forced to switch to that.
I hope that a solution can be found quickly.

    best

    Hi Vivi,

thanks for your post, and sorry for the trouble.

Yes, your table is also very large and that just creates so many input fields that cause the browser to slow down.
(I’m surprised to see that Internet Explorer is working better than Chrome for you, though. In my tests, it’s always been the other way around.)

So, until I have found a better implementation of the “Edit” screen, all I can suggest is to keep using the browser that works best, or to edit the tables e.g. in Excel and then use the import/replace to update the data on the site.
Sorry for not having better news…

    Regards,
    Tobias
