Fatal Error with installation

Hi – I get this message when activating this plugin.
Fatal error: Call-time pass-by-reference has been removed in /usr/www/users/ohwowkrpfr/wp-content/plugins/wp-pedigree-builder/class.tree.php on line 45
Can someone please advise ? Is the WP version too new maybe ?
