• I followed the instructions for creating a child theme, but did not add any code to the style sheet other than what was required per instructions and activated the child theme. I thought by having the import code in there and having not added any other style code yet, that nothing would be changed…WRONG !! My header image was gone, everything was changed !!

So I reactivated the twentyeleven theme I am using, my header image is back, but a lot of the other changes I had made are gone. I still want to pursue the child theme so I can keep my twentyeleven theme updated but without losing my changes. Problem is I have no clue how to do this. I have tried studying the twentyeleven style sheet but it is so complicated I have no clue how to code the child style sheet to keep my header image, change the font and size of the post headers, put a border down the sides of the blog to delineate it from the same color background, style the footer with a different color background and change its font color and size.

Can someone help me please !! Thanks !!

  • When you change to a child theme, you have to redo the settings and options – those are not transferred to a child theme (like any other new theme).

You also have to move any CSS changes you’ve made (or want to make) to the child theme.

But first let’s make sure it’s set up and working correctly – can you post a link to your site?

okay, reactivated the child theme, got my header image back and instead of border lines I am going to try it for a while with a black background, but would like to know how to code the style sheet if I change my mind and decide to go back to the black border instead. Still trying to figure out how to style the footer with the text smaller and the lines not spaced so far apart. Would also like to change style and color of the horizontal rules, and the size and style of the post headers

I would also like to know how to justify the posts paragraphs for a cleaner look…thanks !!

and maybe make the headers for the side menu, i.e. Comments, Categories, etc. a little larger ?
