I like Twenty Thirteen but I find the comment section to be too obtrusive and I’d like to just shut off comments altogether. I have tried everything I can in settings, but with no luck. Can anyone help? Thanks!

  • HI Gurang!

    Do the following:

    Go to Dashboard
    Then ‘Settings’ then ‘Discussion’
In there, you will see ‘Default Article Settings’
Unmark the box “Allow people to post comments on new articles” (you will see this in number 3)

Please note: This action will affect only the Post created afterwards. Not those which were already been created.

    mybdbis,

Many thanks for your help! Will the same setting also control comments on PAGES? I am glad that I am only starting with a new site! Otherwise going back and republishing many old posts to get rid of the comments block would really be a pain.

    Thanks again.

Hi Bob, glad to hear that it helped.

Yes, same will also work for ‘Pages’ (as usual worked on new pages created after setting changed.)

Will be glad if you mark ‘Resolve’ this topic, if it helps to get your solution.

    All the best!!

Another way that we found is to go the ‘Pages’ or ‘Posts’ page in Dashboard. Select all pages or posts you want comments to go away. Select edit in bulk actions and apply. You will now get various options. In comments select ‘do not update’ and update all the pages or posts.
This does it for existing pages and posts too.

    Hello, @dotcreatives,

Thanks for the tip! Worked perfectly.

    Awesome, dotcreatives! Thanks!!!

Is there a way to remove the Comments/Leave reply section from the Front/home page, which doesnt involved completely disabling comments from this theme?

@dotcreatives Thank you so much. Perfect, exactly what I’ve been looking for!

    Thank you “DotCreatives”…

This is THE only method that worked for me…everything else I did just left the Comments there….Christ..how annoying…! This perhaps will also work for other themes I tried and dropped for this same reason, (could not turn comments off)….THANK YOU..you made my day..!
I understand that WP is primarily a Blogging platform, hence the comments, but really, there are millions of people using it to create regular, static sites too, and it should be slightly easier to turn commenting features off..!

    Cheers….

Thank you!! You saved me hours and sweat..
