Disabling automatic friend request

Is it possible to disable the automatic friend request that’s sent out once someone accepts an invitation? As soon as a new account is verified, an email goes out requesting friendship from the person that sent the invitation.

Not sure if this is a function of this plugin or BuddyPress. I’m not seeing an obvious way of controlling this. Anyone know how to turn it off?
