• Newbie here to the forums, but been using WP for a while.

I was wondering if anyone knows of a way to do an advance search of WordPress plugins?

    Example:

I want to look for search for tooltip plugins that are only compatible with version 3.5.2 and above.

Is that possible? What about sorting by star rating?

Any help with this would be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks!

  • Sorry – short of using Google, we have no real solutions for advanced plugin searches. ??

Dang, I’ve spent so much time clicking on plugins only to find out they haven’t been updated in “two years” or “may not be compatible”.

Do you have any suggestions on how to do an advance search on Google for something like this? Every time I do it just comes up with plugins for your adding search to your WP site.

    Thanks!

Plugins that haven’t been updated for a while are not always a problem. Some plugins aren’t updated simply because they don’t need updating. What kind of plugin are you looking for?

True. But I guess I lean more towards going with ones that are up to date as I’d rather not have to worry about it not being compatible.

I’ve been search for various ones so it could be a long task.

Absolutely agree but I also look at what the plugin is going to be doing. If it is going to be hooking into post generation/display, then a recently up-to-date plugin is probably critical. If it’s a backup plugin that hooks into Phpmyadmin, it’s not such a big deal.

I usually end up downloading about half a dozen. Then I test each one on a local server with debug on and error logging enabled. That tends to weed out the dubious ones pretty quickly.
